The Bear Creek Girls Softball Program is part of the premier Girls Softball League of Jefferson County, Colorado. The Program was organized in 1975. Dorothy Holzkamp was the first Director of 5 Bear Creek Girls Softball teams. Bear Creeks’ first championship team was the 11 year-old Oilers in 1980 coached by Dave Spencer. Since that time the Program has grown to include both recreational and competitive A and B teams between the ages of 6 and 20 years old. Several of the competitive teams have won state and regional championships and played in national competition. Some players have received college scholarships to play softball at Division 1 and 2 schools.
Recreational league registration starts in January and is organized by the following age groups: coach pitch, 8 and under, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, 15U, 16 and over up to 20 years of age. Placement on teams is based on the girls age as of September 1. Within each age group, teams are placed in divisions based on previous years performance. All recreational teams are considered class ‘C’ level according to the different governing organization of girls’ softball, ASA, USSSA and NSA.
Competitive girls’ softball is organized for 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, and 18U at A and B levels. Tryouts for competitive teams are held during August for the following years teams. Teams play in weekend tournaments in or out of Colorado from April through August.
